Mothers Day and My Cancer-versary.

Happy Mother's Day!

I am so thankful to be spending the day with my incredible 5 year old son. I can't tell you how blessed I feel to be happy, healthy, and able to enjoy every moment of this day!

On this date three years ago, I received the phone call from my doctor with test results that confirmed our fears. I had colon cancer. It was a devastating diagnosis, and a really rough surgery, followed by six grueling months of chemotherapy.

I choose to celebrate this cancer-versary. After all, I am one of the fortunate ones. I am still here. I beat it. I am alive and well, and here to enjoy all of life's ups and downs with the people I love.

A year after I was diagnosed, I lost one of my closest friends to this hideous disease. She had a rare adrenal cancer, and passed away in just a few short months after being diagnosed. She left behind a husband, and three wonderful kids. They are my nieces and nephew. I know that everyday is tough for them without their mom, but I am even more sure that Mother's day and other holidays are particularly hard. I am so proud of these three, and they will be in my thoughts throughout the day.

I am very fortunate to have a wonderful, kind, generous, energetic, sweet, Mom, who is still around to be my mother, and an amazing Grandmother to my son, and her other 2 grandsons. I am so blessed to have such an incredible woman as my Mom, and I don't tell her often enough just how much she means to me.
I love you more than you'll ever know, Mom!! Thank you for being my rock!

Happy Mother's Day to all of you out there, who so selflessly work each day to make your family feel loved and special with every little thing you do!

And thank you to my family, for showing me what love is really all about!

Have a fantastic day!!

xo

    1. Yes, you just never know! I was so fortunate to be led by my wonderful ob/gyn to the most talented colon surgeon around! He was a Harvard classmate of hers, and happened to be the head of the colorectal center here in L.A. at USC Norris Cancer Center. This man took me apart, took the tumor, and put me back together better than new! He is a miracle worker! I left the hospital battered for sure, but in perfect working order. I was so blessed to have found him!
Hope you enjoyed the time with your family this weekend!

  3. I remember the afternoon you called to tell me about the cancer. You sad "are you sitting down I have something to tell you" I was so shocked I really did not know how to react. I hung up the phone and balled my eyes out. I could not imagine a day that I could not pick up the phone to talk to you about everything and nothing. I am sooo very happy that God hass blessed you/us to still be in each others life. I pray we have our frienship for the rest of our lives. I love you and Happy Mothers Day you deserve it. xoxoxoxoxxxo

    1. You know, that phone call is a blur for me, along with the others I had to make that day. In fact, much of that time is a blur, but I do know that I am so thankful to have such amazing friends like you to help pull me through!!

I'll NEVER forget our drive to the chemo doctor, though! (Don't say ANYTHING!!!!) It's been long enough that I can laugh about it now!

      Love you girl! xoxo
