Off the Grid...and a Home Repair Issue.

Hi All!
 Did anyone miss me?
I feel like  I have been really off the grid for the last few days! I have been out of my house, and away from my computer. I have not even read my favorite blogs, posted on my own blog, or answered any emails!

We have a bit of a home repair "situation" here at Casa Budget Design Girl...

A leak...
Yeah, those are fun, right?

So, I am sure that this will be a somewhat lengthy process, but I am going to be able to make some changes in my kitchen, that I have been wanting to do for some time now!

Here is what the space looked like just before the workmen arrived the other day...

We had to unload everything, since we knew that the pantry and cabinets had to come out.
Here's what the wall looked like when I climbed the ladder to get the things off the top of the cabinets...
Pretty, huh? That is from the leak!

It's all tarped off now, and waiting for phase two. I am not going to show you the wall before it was tarped. Just say thank you, trust me!

So, even though I am probably going to get to make some great changes to the kitchen as a result of this, I can't lie, it stresses me out. I don't like limbo, or caos. But, I am trying to reign it in, and focus on the positive. Deep breathing. ;-)

I think we may have to change the floor, and I honestly really dislike the travertine we have now, and would love to switch to hardwood. I found a really nice sample already, and I think it's what I want. It is a medium tone wood, not too dark, or too light, and is not orange, but more brown.
In fact, is actually looks more red-orange in these pics, than in real life.
Here it is sitting on my tobacco brown leather sofa.
And on the floor against the baseboards.
It is bamboo, with a slight rustic distressed finish. I did not want super dark espresso floors, since I know that would show light dirt like CA-RAY-ZAY!

The last pic was taken outside, and still it looks more orange in the photo than in person.
I was thinking that we would go ahead and paint the cabinets swiss coffee, which is a creamy white, since we are going to be having the work done, and then of course the walls would go lighter as well.

So, that's the encapsulated version of what's been happening.
I need to head to the gym now, and work off some of my anxiety.

Have a great weekend! I am working out in the yard a bit, and re-planting some flowers in pots and planters, so stay tuned for up-coming posts about that!

  1. That is like the color I have in my kitchen. It's a beautiful color. Hope everything turns out the way you want it to. Try not to stress out too much.

    1. Aww, thank you! Yes, I do like the color, it's Sherwin Williams Toasty. I had my sister use it in her kitchen too. It is such a warm and cozy color.

  2. I have been there and done that so I totally understand the anxiety. While it is kinda fun getting to update things you've wanted, the mess in-between is enough to send me off the deep end!! Hope all turns out well for you.

    1. I know, it's the mess that gets to me...ok, AND the not knowing yet how much we will be getting to repair/replace things. Once I know what I am working with money wise, I can at least make some decisions. That is the fun part, after all!
Thanks Lauren! I'm sure it will all work out. :-)

  3. Deep cleansing breaths - it will all be a bad memory when it's done (even that horrible leak)!!

Love the floor - the color is fabulous!
