Indoor Herb Container Garden - How To.

Monday, Monday!
Another crazy start to the week around here! Why is it, that Monday's are always the most insane mornings? I swear, it's like the wheels have fallen off the cart over the weekend!!

Anyhow, today I wanted to show you a little project I did on Friday. I have wanted to do an indoor herb container garden of some type for a while now.

A week or two ago, I found a cute basket while at an antique store, and decided to use it to contain my herbs. I just needed to find an insert, and create some drainage for it, and I knew it would look great.

Here's the finished product...

I found some organic herbs, and some small ivy plants for a nice mixture.

Here is what I used to make my herb container garden...
I needed to find a bowl shallow enough to fit inside the basket, but with a wide opening at the top.
I found one on sale for $7. I liked that it was metal, since I knew I could easily poke drainage holes in it.

I just used a large nail and a hammer.
Found a 12 inch saucer at the Dollar Store for the bottom, and lined it with small rocks.

See how perfectly that fits together? Love it when that happens!
I used a variety of herbs. I bought Basil, Lemon Thyme, Peppermint, and Tricolor Sage. Then I mixed in 3 small ivy plants.

Now when I need fresh herbs for cooking, I can just reach over, and pluck some right off of my indoor herb pot! ... And *bonus*, it looks really pretty sitting on my counter! :-)

 Ta-da! I love it!

I think I will make a couple more for outside, so that I can have a wide variety of herbs to cook with. Stay tuned!
Hope you have a FABULOUS week!!

  2. I have been trying and trying to grow herbs from seeds. I can see I'm going to have to go buy starters. I'm getting nothing. Yours are beautiful and I'm jealous. :-)

    1. :-) If you need the words to Go Dog Go, or One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, let me know! I can't remember where I left my reading glasses, but Dr. Suess is seared into my brain, along with all of the lyrics to my son's favorite shows.
God knows I need more brain space for the important things, but for some reason, I have no problem recalling useless info like random trivia, kids books, songs, or every Friends line ever written!

  9. Will the plants survive if they don't get any sun? Will you have to put it outside every once in a while?
