Like Father Like Son

Don't all boys want to be just like their Daddy's when they are young?
I suppose I should be saving this post for Father's Day, but I decided to go ahead and do it today, as we all run around town, and through the malls, (or the apple store) trying to find the right gift for our Dad's Father-in-law's, and husbands.
I always try to find the perfect little gift, which isn't easy for the man who really has everything he wants. It's tough to be clever with the guys, right?

All my son really cares about is just spending time with his Dad. Soaking it all in. Building, playing, chasing, hiding, and playing ball in the backyard.

The little guy absolutely worships the ground his father walks on.
My son loves to imitate everything my husband does. He tries to dress like Dad, do his hair like Dad, and pretend shave like dad.

He knows what kind of airplanes his Daddy flies, both commercially, and for the military. He watches the sky for any sign of him when my husband is away on a trip.

My sister in law just found a mini flight suit at the bottom of her 13 year old son's drawer that we bought him when he was around 5 years old. He (my nephew) told my husband that he wanted a "green boy" suit so that he could go to the base with Mr W and be a pilot. (He went many times with my husband, wearing that flight suit, and I know he loved it.)

When I brought it home, and showed my son, he actually SQUEALED with delight! He raced to put it on, and zip it up. He wanted all the right patches, just like Daddy, and a pencil in the pocket, in the exact place that his Daddy puts his. Then he asked me if there was anything he forgot. I said, actually...Daddy puts a lucky coin in his breast pocket, so he insisted that I give him one too.

The little guy...

He also wanted a lollipop. As far as I know, Daddy doesn't normally do that. :-)

Here's the big guy...

I'm off to see the little guy perform in his Spring Music program. He does not enjoy the spot light!
Cross your fingers!

Have a great day!

* Update * I was so proud of the little guy today! He was fantastic at his spring program! They did 7 songs, all with hand motions, and he sang every word, and did every motion!
I gotta tell ya, I almost could not control the water works, I was so proud!

  1. Such a sweet post! My brother is a Marine, former pilot (he is now working at the Pentagon and no longer in the cockpit). His boys are older now, but they too loved to imitate dad when they were younger.

    1. Lauren,

Thanks to your brother for his service. My husband started out in the marine corps. He switched to the air force to go to pilot training, and join the reserves.

Boys are so cute with their dads.

  2. My hubby isn't a pilot but I did have the boys dress up in a pilot and astronaut costume for Halloween a few years back. Looks like the same green suit. Brought back a nice memory for me. Thanks for sharing.

Isn't it incredible what a wonderful role model a father can be to a son. You are blessed many times over.
