~ Drumroll Please! ~
I feel like there should be some sort of ceremony or celebration involved here.
I FINALLY got the curtain project completed in the little guy's room.
Where is my marching band with the huge percussion section?
Does anyone else hear an echo? Helllooo?
Nothing. No drumroll?
Do you ever just get in a rut with the projects, and let the unfinished ones slide for WAY too long? Yeah, um...GUILTY. Maybe it's a self preservation maneuver to balance out my perfectionist tendencies. Or...maybe it's BECAUSE of my perfectionist ways. -Hang in there with me, here's my theory... If I can't take the time I need to complete a project or task up to my standard from start to finish, and I have to do it in phases, it often fizzles. I think it's because I want the gratification of finishing it, so I can step back to admire my handy work while the sky parts, and angels sing. If I have to stop and start, well...where's the pay off in that?
Al righty then. Now that you know for sure that I'm crazy, and I need marching bands or singing angels to help me celebrate my meager accomplishments, let me share my after photo with you.
Don't worry, I hear the angles in my head. They started singing just after the drumroll...
Ok, my husband shot this with his wide angle lens and in HDR which I do NOT normally like, since it distorts the pics and the HDR makes them look a bit cartoonish, but the room gets so much light blasting in, that it's IMPOSSIBLE to shoot normally. All of the following photos I shot. They are not great. Sorry.
Thanks to the sewing help from my mother in law, 4 little mini panels were made from one long 84 inch panel.
I got the brilliant idea to hang them in a simple way. At first, I wanted to use a little peg hook board to hang the clips on, but I could not find what I wanted. Then, I decided to just go ahead and use nails.
Does anyone remember that I have an aversion to measuring, or using a level? Yep. I'm crazy like that. Most of the time it works out great, but here's how this one went...
Looks like I will be doing a little post project spackling and touch up. Any bets on how long that will take me? ;-)
Once I got rolling, I really liked how they looked. Simple and cute. I just needed them as dummy panels, and I had tried big curtain rods in here before, but I really did not like the way they looked, so down they came, and out came the spackle and paint. Hmm...Maybe I should buy more spackle.
Anyhow, I love how they turned out, and I love his little airplane room. It always looks so weird in pictures. The colors are really distorted. It's actually so much cuter in person.
Sorry about the blurry shot. It's the weird lighting thing. I swear, it's almost impossible to get a good shot of this room.
So, I really am happy with how they turned out. The panels are from Target, and were marked down to $6.98 each. I used two for all of the windows, so the whole thing was just over $15 with tax.
Not to shabby. Now I am sorry that it took me so long to get it done.
Oh, and here's a little peak at how it looked before...
And after again...
But now that it is, I can hear the angels singing every time I walk by.
Hope you had a great week!
I'll be back tomorrow with another post.

The panels look fabulous and I like the nails, that's a great idea. Such a cute room. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteThanks Marty! I think I'm finally done in his room for a while!
DeleteThanks so much for stopping by!
Have a great weekend!

Your little guy has such a sweet room. Love all the planes and the panels look great. I never would have thought to just put nails. I would have holes all over the wall in an up and down wavy pattern. I'm one of those people that can't draw a straight line. I'd hate to have the pause of a hammer in my hand trying to line up nails.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
Thank you, Jana! Well, I do have quite a few holes. I think that I must not have been concentrating in the beginning. :-/
DeleteHis dad is a pilot, so there are no shortage of airplanes around. I do love how it all came together in there.
Hope you have an awesome weekend! Thanks fo stopping by!

I love the curtains. I would rather spackle than measure any day! I think they are the perfect addition to the room! And I like your pictures, too :)
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend!
blessings,
karianne
Karianne,
DeleteI know, you and I definitely agree on that one! I will do almost anything to avoid using a level, or measuring! ;-)
Hope you have a great weekend! You must be polishing up those yard sale finds, right?

VERY cute room. He's lucky to have all those windows! And I like the idea of the nails. Easy, cheap and looks GREAT.
ReplyDeleteThanks Carolyn! :-)
DeleteSometimes a cheap solution winds up being the best thing! I'm really happy with how it turned out. He is lucky to have all that light. It's great for playing, just not easy to get pics of it!

If you could only see all the tiny little holes under my pictures!
ReplyDeleteLove those curtains - what a fun room! What's that I hear .... drums!
Kelly
Haha! Thanks Kelly!! Yes, I have a few of those hidden under a picture or two in my house also. ;-)

This is so cute!! I think it turned out beautifully, and I love the way you hung the panels (even if you do have to do some spackling). ;-). I'm with you on the unfinished project wagon - soooo many loose ends like that around my house too! It would help if I did keep starting new projects along the way, but what fun is that?!?
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up to my Room Evolution Party!
Thanks Jenny! I think it must be just the way that we're wired. I have always had the un finished project plague. It has gotten worse with blog.
DeleteI know EXACTLY what you mean about not starting new projects, and you're right...where's the fun in that? :-)
Thanks for stopping by!

Nice job! Talk about a neat room. How long does it stay this way? :)
ReplyDeleteHaha! Not long when he's in it! The good news is, I have a tidy kid that actually LIKES to clean. Not sure how I got so lucky!?

His room is so cute. Looks much better with the panels and what a deal.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kim! I know, they really make a difference. I always say, "the right window treatments, are to windows, what nice eyebrows are to a face."
DeleteWeird analogy, but it makes sense to me! :-)
Thanks so much for stopping by!

Lisa, If it was you intent to keep your son a home forever (that was my intent too) you are off to a fabulous start! What boy would ever want to leave home someday with a room that is that adorable! Your attention to detail makes this airplane room so inviting and cozy! You son must love his room!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the curtains. I never thought of hanging curtain rings on nails. The look is so much more airy and light. I just may copy this for a bedroom I am redoing. Great inspiration!
Thanks so much, Yvonne! That is high praise, coming from one of my blogging idols!!
DeleteThank you so much for stopping by, and for leaving such a sweet comment! I just adore your blog, and enjoy reading your posts each day! You are so talented and creative!

I love that color combo for a little boy's room. Plus the stuffed airplane with the airplane pillow would be a huge hit with my "big boy"!
